"Fall at Earl Bales Park"

This is an 24" x 30" acrylic painting on wood panel of fall time at the beautiful Earl Bales Park located south of Sheppard and east of Bathurst. In the esplanade at the entrance of the park there is an important monument to the memory of the Holocaust victims. This great area of the forest is always quiet, beautiful in all seasons, rarely with more that a couple of people and a dog.

A new interpretation of St. James Cathedral where

I go back to my old style of more detail, 

although not too much.

This image is 26.7 x 34.3 cm., the previous one 24 x 19 cm

I'm truly amazed how loose is this watercolour 

when I think of previous paintings, so many of this subject,
so many where this cathedral appears.
I think this area is one of the most beautiful
areas of Toronto for artists.

Well, somehow, the way that my signature came 

seems to subject to me that I like it!

MuseumMemories

Today, reading a newspaper,

I saw an interesting article called

MuseumMemories and here are 

some of the ones it mentioned:

-Monet's "Waterlilies"

-"my favourite was curating and installing

my first exhibition"

-"Seeing my all-time favourite painting

-"Standing owed and mesmerized

I have memories of emotional tears when,

visiting the dreamed

Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando,

in Madrid, I was in front of this self-portrait of Goya. 

The great  painting "Fusilamientos de la Moncloa",

also called "El 3 de Mayo, 1808", is another one.

I never forget the white strokes which 

defines the shirt of the man to be shot.

"St. Mary's Church at Bathurst Sreet, Toronto"

These are watercolours that I did some years ago.
I thought of them as many christians celebrate
Easter and Holy Week.
St. Peter's, located at Bathurst/Adelaide, 
used to be an Irish community parish.
Today it is Portuguese.

"St. Michael's Cathedral, interior"

Situated in the heart of Toronto, 

this Roman Catholic Cathedral was consecrated

 in 1866. It played an instrumental role 

in the founding of nearby St. Michael's Hospital 

with the Sisters of St. Joseph.

"Bloor St. West"

My last watercolour where I am experimenting 

with a much looser way of brushwork

in watercolour and in painting in general.

In a way, it leaves out the details for the mind 

to work at completing the picture.

It is Bloor street where people expose themselves
to the invitations or temptation of shopping.

"Green onions"

My oil "Green onions".

There is something about this painting 

that attracts people, and a Spanish friend 

said that it reminded him of this other 

painting in the Granada Museum of Fine Art
by Juan Sánchez Cotán, from Orgaz (Toledo),
1561-1627. He died as a monk in Granada.

"Hart House" #1

Interesting how I painted "Hart House" 

many years ago

in a very much photo-realistic style 

and in a much looser way now.

This watercolour sold many years ago.

A pity that it is gone!, 

that is the life of the artist.

Why is this watercolour in my blog? 

Well, I like very much the way John is able to simplify so dramatically.

It makes his work so fresh, the brushwork is so obvious and intense.

It happens that it surprised me how similar is his subject 

to my painting "Heart House" tower at the University of Toronto.
